Stalled construction projects set for govt funding boost

Stalled construction projects set for govt funding boost A number of construction projects that have been brought to a halt by the economic downturn are to be provided with new financial support from the government.

It is thought that as many as 1,700 jobs in the building sector could be protected, thanks to the £83 million which will be pledged to various house building sites.

Around 5,700 affordable properties should now be erected, following the allocation of the funding.

John Healey, the country's housing minister, suggested that apprenticeship positions will also be created as part of the scheme.

'We're putting the weight of government investment into building much-needed affordable homes, keeping people in work and giving young people a chance of apprenticeships,' he said.

Meanwhile, power tools users looking to make green home improvements to their existing properties might also be interested to note the view of the Federation of Master Builders' director of external affairs Brian Berry.

He believes that a VAT reduction could inspire more people to consider sustainable property renovations.
