Homeowners 'should be wary of DIY problems this year'

Homeowners 'should be wary of DIY problems this year' UK householders looking to try their hand at a bit of DIY work this year should be wary of over-extending themselves, it is believed.

While DIY may be a tempting option, it may be a good idea for professionals to be consulted on certain tricky projects, Ratedpeople.com has suggested.

The website's founder and chief executive officer Andrew Skipwith believes that such action may lower the chances of a 'DIY disaster' occurring in people's properties.

Noting the trend for DIY work, he commented: 'Many homeowners throughout the UK are looking to potentially add value to their property and make it more of a long term investment through DIY.'

Meanwhile, fans of DIY who regularly make use of power tools might be keen to note that Black & Decker has recently confirmed that it will be celebrating its centenary year in 2010, which will see things like a microsite launched.
