HSE issues explosive warning

HSE issues explosive warning The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to employers to make sure that work involving explosive substances is properly managed.

Section 5 (1) of the Dangerous Substances and Explosives Atmospheres Regulations 2002 states: "Where a dangerous substance is or is liable to be present at the workplace, the employer shall make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to his employees which arise from that substance."

In order to manage the risks posed by dangerous and explosive substances, employers need to conduct a thorough assessment.

Failing to do so could ultimately result in serious injury or even death to workers.

To help firms conduct, implement and update a risk assessment, the HSE provides industry-specific guidelines that are tailored to certain situations.

A risk assessment may highlight the need for fire products and spill kits, which can help tackle potentially dangerous situations before they escalate into something more serious.
