CIOB launches 'risk assessor' for construction industry
A 'risk assessor' has been launched by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) to provide safe management control and accurate records.
The system allows contractors and sub-contractors to monitor and manager risk assessments online, and ensure health and safety obligations are met.
CIOB said currently risk assessments are legally required in today's construction industry but there is also a moral obligation to keep construction workers and members of the public as safe as possible throughout the building process.
If these regulations are not met companies can face massive financial fines and criminal liability.
The Health and Safety Commission's (HSC) recent statistics show that there were 72 fatal injuries to workers in construction during 2004-05 and eight fatal injuries to member of the public.
CIOB director John Douglas said the new risk assessor produces risk assessments fully compliant with current legislation and just as importantly in the event of an accident provides proof that assessments have been maintained.
"Health and safety best practice cannot afford to be reactive; the CIOB believes that keeping risk assessments accurate and up to date is fundamental to keeping the construction industry a safe work place. CIOB Risk Assessor guarantees best practice is present on site and complies with directors due diligence requirements," Mr Douglas said.
